WHAT TO EXPECT
We will be chasing the light around different locations in the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. Most of the shooting locations will center around the Superstition Mountains and the surrounding National Forest. The itinerary will be determined by each participant’s needs and goals.
We will shoot at sunrise, making good use of the soft light of early morning and then use the more dramatic light when the sun crests the horizon. Each day after our morning shoot we will review images and then take a break to rest up and prepare for our sunset shoot. We will be shooting at a variety of locations plus the possibility of visiting one location more than once for a chance at better light or for different compositions.
A private tour is ideal for those who would like to attend a photography workshop but would like more of a personal focus rather than a small group focus.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND
This workshop will provide value for any photographer, from beginner to advanced attendees. Having a good working knowledge of your camera would be ideal, but it is perfectly alright if you are just beginning! We will assess your skill level before the workshop begins to ensure the best experience for you!
ITINERARY
There will be a pre-workshop Zoom meeting to discuss your goals and for a quick Q&A Session. Typically, we hold that meeting at least 30 days prior to the start of the workshop.
The itinerary and schedule of the Private Sonoran Desert Tour will be based on the registrants needs, usually determined in our initial consultation.
The typical itinerary consists of a sunset shoot on Day 1, a sunrise shoot, an image review session and sunset shoot on Day 2 and a sunrise shoot and image review session on Day 3 to conclude the Private Sonoran Desert Tour.
We will also have a post-workshop Zoom session scheduled to dedicate to post-processing and image reviews!

WEATHER
I live in Arizona and am very acclimated to the climate here so the Sonoran Desert Private Tour is available at any time of the year where our schedule permits.
The summer here is hot. The Sonoran Desert summer can pretty much be defined as May - October. It typically begins to cool down a bit in mid-October and then our more temperate season begins. By late February or March, the Spring weather begins as we prepare for another summer.
We can choose a time of the year that is appropriate time of the year for you, again as scheduling permits.
HIKING
The amount of hiking in the Sonoran Desert Private Tour will vary for each participant. Some of the better locations require a little bit of hiking, one in particular at the base of the Superstition Mountains requires a hike of about a mile in and a mile back out on uneven terrain. That would be about the most of any of our usual shooting spots. Again, it will vary from person to person.
Please be sure that you are physically fit enough to perform the necessary hiking and for being on your feet for several hours at a time.
