The Superstition Mountains lie in the heart of the Sonoran Desert of Arizona. They are known for many things, including their rugged appearance, the abundance of plant and animal life, and some of the harshest summers found anywhere. One thing they are not noted for is snowy winters; it is rare for them to see any significant accumulation of snow. On New Year’s Day in 2015, however, the Superstitions had just received an unexpected overnight snowfall, creating one of the most incredible and memorable natural scenes in recent memory. This stunning fine art image was masterfully photographed by Arizona photographer Todd Stapleton, capturing this rare solitary moment to be preserved, admired and cherished for a lifetime.
