The badlands of northwestern New Mexico provide stunning views of some of the most unique geologic formations found anywhere on the planet. This iconic formation, known as the Alien Throne, is tucked away deep in a remote valley that was sculpted by millions of years of wind and water erosion. The dramatic cloud cover on this day provided a unique lighting, helping to create this dynamic perspective. This surreal image was photographed in the summer of 2023 by southwest photographer Todd Stapleton, capturing this moment to be preserved and cherished for a lifetime.
